How to Change URL Copy and Paste Format in Microsoft Edge
Have you ever noticed that when you copy a URL from the Microsoft Edge browser and paste it somewhere, instead of a direct link (like https://example.com), it gets pasted as a hyperlink with the webpage’s title (like Example Website)?
If you don’t like this feature and want URLs to be pasted as plain text by default, this article will show you how to change this setting in Microsoft Edge.

Improved Copy and Paste of URLs in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge has introduced a new feature called “Improved Copy and Paste,” currently available for beta testers. With this feature, when you copy a webpage URL and paste it somewhere (such as a web editor or another application), it is pasted by default as a hyperlinked title instead of just the plain URL.
For example:
- Plane URL:
https://example.com
- Hyperlinked Title:
Example Website
While this feature can be helpful for some users, there are times when we need the direct URL. If you prefer this, you can change the default setting.
How to Change URL Copy and Paste Format in Microsoft Edge
If you want to paste the URL directly (as plain text) when you press Ctrl + V, follow the steps below:
To change URL Copy & Paste format in Microsoft Edge browser from settings:
Step 1. Open MS Edge Browser on Your Windows Computer.
Step 2. Click on Three Dots (•••) at Top Right and Select Settings.

Step 3. Click on Share, Copy and Paste at Left Side Menu Pane.
You can visit edge://settings/shareCopyPaste in the address bar to directly access this setting.
Step 4. Select Plane Text Instead of Link. Apart from This, You Can Simply Turn Off ‘Use the format selected above when copying links within web pages’ Toggle.

Now, whenever you copy a webpage URL and press Ctrl + V, it will paste as plain text. If you want a hyperlink instead, right-click and select ‘Paste as link.’

Points to note:
This setting only works in Microsoft Edge. If you copy a URL from another browser (such as Chrome or Firefox), it may paste differently.
This feature works in both Windows 10 and 11, but some applications (like Microsoft Word) use their own paste formatting rules, so this setting may not work there.
Microsoft Edge’s new feature is useful for some users, but if you want to paste a URL directly, you can change the setting using the method mentioned above. If you found this guide helpful, please share it with your friends.
